2013 was the year that saw Dusty hang up her wig for the last time. It has been like saying goodbye to an old friend but the time had come to move on. I have worked with some great people whilst developing this project and mentions have to be made to Sharon Foster, Tom Langford and Chris Suddworth. We have had great audiences for this wherever we have taken it and you can never underestimate how strong Dusty's legacy still is today.
During 2013 I have also had the pleasure of being a writer on the Birmingham Rep's Foundry Programme. This has been such a special 12 months. Not only has it resulted in me writing my next piece, Unknown Male I have made some very special friends and been welcomed into a vibrant, exciting organisation. The icing on the cake for me is that in an industry ordinarily donated by men, The Rep's Artistic Director, Associate Director and Associate Producer are all fantastic, inspiring females. At the end of this month we will celebrate the end of our tenure with a showcase of work. Although I will be sad the 12 months is over it is the start of another exciting period.
Over the next few month I will also be working with the Rep and Midland Heart Housing on a project with adults from the housing association exploring their local area. Working with Director Chris Hill we will create a piece which will be performed at the Rep in March and then will tour the West Midlands.
2014 seems to be adopting the theme of transport as there are projects in the pipeline around both buses and trains. Everyone seems to be on a 'journey' nowadays don't they? So all aboard for a happy, healthy successful new year.
